Clinical breast exams are also very important in early the detection of breast cancer. Women ages 18 to 39 should have a clinical breast exam every one to three years and women ages 40-plus should have one yearly. Starting from the age of 18, women should conduct a breast self-exam on a monthly basis and report any abnormalities to their physician.

Women should perform breast self-exams just as their period ends each month or at the same time each month. Remember to report any abnormalities to your physician.
